This is the day, Christmas Day, where a lot of people realize how much they’ve given of themselves the past few weeks. It’s easy for your mind and body to hit a wall. You know what your life has looked like since Thanksgiving, and balance may be absent at the moment. The key is to find balance and sustain it before it get’s away from you.
This visual always helps my well being. Imagine an empty tea cup and you’re poring into the cup from a pot of freshly brewed tea. I always have a saucer under the cup for spills, and that is what you’re looking for. You want your cup, which is you, to overflow into the saucer below.
This is what you give to others….the overflow. Give from your saucer and not your cup.
Once your saucer is empty, do not start giving from your cup. This is what will deplete you mentally and physically. Refill your cup. This may mean taking a walk for a few minutes by yourself, and breathing in the fresh air. A hot bath is always a great escape from the chaos. Take a 20 minute power nap. Anything that will give you a few moments of ‘me’ time to refill your cup back to overflowing.
Only you can take care of yourself. It’s difficult to take care of family and business if you’re not taking good care of yourself. There is only one you, so be kind to yourself and take care.
